Local teenagers ‘Arise’

Public art collective’ Urban Canvas had already made their mark on the Phoenix Square project with their graffiti art murals around the development so given their artistic talents and eagerness to involve young people from Leicester’s city centre communities, we wanted them to be perform live on launch night.

In the weeks leading up to the launch, young people aged between 12 and 18 took part in a series of ‘light painting’ workshops which resulted in them delivering a street performance called ‘Arise’ which was filmed and screened inside the building.

Anthony Donnelly of Urban Canvas, said: “Our ‘Beings of Light’ murals adjacent to Phoenix Square had already generated interest from everyone local people and press alike, creating a talking point around the development. We wanted to take this a step further by working with young people from other city centre communities, getting them involved in what was a truly amazing launch celebration and a landmark event for the whole Leicester.”
