No.1 Nottingham Science Park Attracts Major New Occupiers

Six lettings in 12 months have taken occupation at No.1 Nottingham Science Park to 70 per cent, with more in the pipeline.

As the property sector recovers from a torrid year, our flagship project has come into its own, comfortably outperforming the mainstream market with design quality and green credentials proving irresistible to progressive tenants, especially when they factor in the chance to be part of a high tech community adjacent with the University of Nottingham. It’s taken longer than we hoped (the recession being an inconvenient blip) but the strategy is working, and it’s exciting.

Low running costs and a string of high profile awards add to benefits such as super fast broadband and PR support to make it a compelling package for ambitious, growing businesses. The latest high growth, smart, clean tech company to join is renewable energy company Chinook Sciences, which has taken 15,000 sq ft of Grade A office space on a five-and-half-year lease. It aims to double its workforce to 90 within a year to meet demand for its recycling waste to energy technology, an alternative to land-filling waste.

Chinook's move comes just three months after Chinese carmaker Changan also set up its European R&D centre at No.1.

US-based Chinook has developed industrial recycling technology that converts waste materials into steam to generate electricity without incinerating it. The company is currently building the world's largest waste gasification plant in Liverpool in partnership with European Metal Recycling.
