Blueprint is currently developing the masterplan for over 10 acres of prime waterfront land in Leicester. Working with Leicester Regeneration Company, Leicester City Council and English Partnerships, Blueprint has put together a masterplanning team (led by the nationally renowned Urbed) to set the vision for the area - a new, mixed use, sustainable neighbourhood providing great homes and work spaces right at the heart of Leicester's city centre.

Blueprint, working with Leicester Regeneration Company (www.leicesterregeneration.co.uk), Leicester City Council, and English Partnerships, is planning the development of over 10 acres of waterside land in Leicester.

The development will deliver social and economic regeneration through the creation of a new environmentally sustainable, leading-edge design, mixed-use neighbourhood, to include over 600 new homes with retail, leisure, community and employment space.

It’s expected that the completed masterplan will be the subject of a planning application in late 2008, with development starting in 2010/11.

The development forms part of the wider Waterside regeneration area, one of the five key areas in Leicester Regeneration Company’s Master Plan, that aims to reunite the city centre with its 11 miles of waterfront. The area will eventually include up to 3,000 new homes, as well as bars, restaurants and workplaces.

John Nicholls, chief executive of Leicester Regeneration Company, said: “Developing the waterfront is crucial to Leicester’s regeneration and this project has come one step closer to fruition. This project will set the standard for future developments through high quality, environmentally-friendly design.”

Charlie Baker, urban designer for URBED, said, “Modern architecture seems all too often unable to make memorable places, only individual buildings in space, and not often at a human scale. We are delighted that Blueprint have given us the opportunity to challenge the current orthodoxy, and to put people at the heart of Leicester Waterside.”
